THE BUILDING
Served by missionary priests in the 1840s, St. Paul's Episcopal Church
was organized October 9, 1848, by a group of citizens from the village of Weston. The
first church building was erected on the lot now occupied by the First Baptist Church. It
was a simple frame building with rented box pews. |
|
The Masonic Fraternity laid the cornerstone for the present building on July 25, 1895. Our
rough-cut limestone exterior is part of a small gem of Gothic architecture constructed to
a medieval cruciform design. The church was dedicated on September 13, 1900.

1890s STAINED GLASS
Earliest Example 1850s
Most of St. Paul's stained glass dates from the time when
the church construction was being completed in 1897 and is in the Victorian Gothic Style.

Behind the altar is a
floor-to-ceiling
1897 window showing the empty tomb
and two visiting women flanking a
glorious rendering of the of the Emmaus Road resurrection appearance.

The earliest window, and one fine example, is located at
the right end of the transept, representing in abstract the Second Coming of the Lord in
power, and dates from the 1850s. |
