Prayer is responding to God by thought and by deeds, with or without
words. BCP, p. 856*.
O God of peace who has taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in
quietness and in confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your Spirit lift us, we
pray you, into your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. BCP, p. 832*.
We are a people whose faith and practice are collected into a single book, *The
Book of Common Prayer. Soundly based in Scripture, this book contains all
our rites from birth to death, the psalms, a catechism and all things necessary to the
conducting of our common life, except for Holy Scripture and the Hymnal.
